This book is awesome. On the surface, it's an other-worldly page turner with a compelling and twisting plot that haunts your thoughts long after you finish reading it. On another level, it masterfully treats the most timely and important issues of our day: discrimination; bullying; slavery; humankind's lack of understanding; our need as a species to pull together in the face of common challenges; the mystery of life, on earth and vis a vis the Cosmos; and the meaning and consequences of true love--to name a few of the big ones. The book is supposedly for "young adults," but would you say that about The Hobbit? No, this is a story for the ages, a tale for everyone to enjoy and savor, young or old. When Kaila and Jordyn have to make their epic choices, or die trying, the universe holds its breath. And as soon as you readers can catch your own breaths, most of you will hope and wonder, as if bound telepathically: will this odyssey be coming soon to a theater near you?Tags : Starseed [Liz Gruder] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. what a change
This book was recommend by a friend and began reading with some reservations, as i am well past high school age. Although there are plenty of reports now about bullies and kids everywhere, this was an eye opener for me.
I love this book and will give copies to my grandchildren to read.
Interesting concept on alien abduction. Didn't believe the bullying plot. If not for the Facebook reference I thought the story was outdated.
Born and raised in Louisiana, not far from the town of Bush, I instantly fell in love with all the characters in this story.I was abducted in a sense, being there when the alien intervention took place. I am an avid believer in E.T.'s and the author left me with a new outlook in the possibility of abduction. When I was nearing the end of the story a tear formed in my eye.I firmly believe that if a writer can bring out that kind of emotion in a reader she has the potential to be one of the greatest writers of all time.I strongly recommend reading this book and to be on the look-out for her next release.
I was actually surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did. I was drawn to the title but wasn't too crazy about the cover. Once I started reading, I didn't want to stop.
The author has certainly written a creative story in a world filled with alien sci-fi stories. There is great potential to this book. I liked seeing Kaila struggle through what and who to believe, but I wish the author hadn't taken her down the path of joining to the hive; I realize she did that to allow Kaila to know what the aliens were truly up to. I liked the Priscilla Snowden character and wish that path of the story had been explored more throughout the story.
In the end though, the ending felt a little like an overdone good vs evil story. There were times when the book felt very lengthy and kinda dragged along.
I really didn't know what to think of this book. I will admit that some things were thought provoking but it was really a bizarre book that didn't seem to be much different from the classical run of the mill alien abduction story complete with implanted devices, experimentation with a doseof alien/human pregnancies. The aliens are even described as the generic aliens that supposedly landed at Roswell.
At first the adding Religion to the mix was okay but it quickly left a sour taste in my mouth since it felt like the evil aliens were being used as scapegoats for all the evil that has been visited on us and that the good aliens can save us. I do agree that we as humans can be like sheep going here and there looking for happiness.
At the end i just didn't like it. I won't be reading anything else by Ms Gruder.
