Another great compilation from Mike Ashley. As usual, his selections are top notch; and well sequenced. My favorites were "When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth", "Pallbearer", and "Guardians of the Phoenix". There were many other thought-provoking and entertaining stories as well. Overall, a good collection well worth reading.

Ehh, you know, whatever.
Some of these stories were a little bit unbelievable
Uneven in its content, but a really fun read.
this book had a few interesting and then a few that didn't hold my interest and were skipped over. glad it was cheap
Not in the usual sense of the word. These endings were far too peaceful; not apocalyptic. Good stories, if somewhat slow.
Scenarios represented in this collection range from the very near future to the very ends of time itself.
What concerns us is the immediate future. We can see the consequences of climate change - unseasonal rains and storms, extreme freak hot and cold spells etc. Flora and fauna are dying out. Pollution on a gigantic scale litters and desecrates the countryside.
Terrorism is on the increase; the threat of a dirty bomb or biowarfare looms increasingly.
In a post-apocalyptic scenario, mankind will revert to barbaric behaviour, although many authors depict humanity struggling to survive by helping each other. However, a picture of 'each for himself or herself' is more plausible.
Wonderful anthology and highly recommended
Even though some of the stories have been printed in other collections, I hadn't read them before and so I'm glad I got the opportunity to now. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them - highly recommend getting this book.
